This module supports the development of the product knowledge that team members should have in order to feel confident to answer customer questions.
Beer is a generic term and the start of the module considers the difference between lager, ale and stout, develops knowledge of how beers are made and then explores different styles of ale, stout and lager along with cider; What is the difference between kegs and casks? This section explains! along with tips on changing a barrel and reading beer bottle labels; Different styles of beer glasses are looked at with tips on their condition; Serving beers considers the best practice standards for serving both draught and bottled including stouts, metred dispense, cask ale and temperature, ullage and cleaning nozzles; Learners will consider the reasons that beer may be flat, cloudy or fob and the action they might take; The module finishes with an insight into different beer drinks.

This Serving Beers module is designed for operational team members working in any style of bar or restaurant business. It is best placed to develop the knowledge of team members for them to feel confident to answer customer questions and is ideal in a career development programme. Serving Beers will contribute to the off job training hours for team members undertaking a Level 2 Hospitality Team member apprenticeship. The module is also part of our complete Professional Bar Service programme (this can be found in the Bar Service category in the right side bar) which forms a base knowledge for other formal learning and qualifications and would generally meet most requirements at Level 2.
The end quiz ensures that key points are both remembered and understood and using 20 questions covers key aspects of the module content and objectives. The pass mark is 80% and on successful completion the certificate endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality is automatically available to be downloaded. Questions are in the same style as within the learning part of the module, ie: drag and drop, single choice and multiple choice and there is an opportunity to review the key points before starting the quiz. If needed, incorrect answers can be reviewed before retaking the quiz as many times as needed.
