Housekeeping is an often underrated department and this module, Your Role in Housekeeping, sets out to encourage people to be proud to work in Housekeeping.

Programme Description

Starting with an overview of the structure of housekeeping departments and the key responsibilities of each job role then moving on to the expected uniform and grooming standards. The module centres on the 5 key responsibilities of room attendants:

 1) Clean and service bedrooms and bathrooms to the standards required including; understanding different room types, how long should it take to clean a room, defining the term ‘section’, introducing the concept of the Housekeeping Circle, entering guest rooms, responding to guest requests and using positive behaviours

 2) Maintain good relationships with other  departments and communicate effectively 3) Security, including handling lost property, master keys and room keys, importance of knowing company security procedures including personal safety and unattended bags 

4) Work safely – refers people to the module Safety Aware for Housekeeping teams (this can be found in the Safety category in the right hand side bar) and responsibility 5) keep storage areas clean and manage supplies which looks at general storge standards, linen storage, checking deliveries and being cost aware. Finally, the module explores training opportunities both internal and formal and be proud of the contribution that Housekeeping makes to the success of the business.

Module Content Details

This module is fully interactive using a range of videos, questions and activities aligned to hospitality to ensure learners develop an understanding of why it is important to be aware in the workplace why procedures and standards are used. Case studies and full colour images illustrate examples of standards.

Target Audience

This module is designed for people considering working in Housekeeping in hotels and guesthouses and can be used with new staff to support internal induction training. Your role in Housekeeping will contribute to the off job training hours for team members undertaking the Housekeeping pathway in the Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship and as part of our complete Professional Housekeeping programme develops the base knowledge for other formal learning and qualifications.

Module End Quiz

The end quiz ensures that key points are both remembered and understood and using 20 questions covers key aspects of the module content and objectives. The pass mark is 80% and on successful completion the certificate endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality is automatically available to be downloaded. Questions are in the same style as within the learning part of the module, ie: drag and drop, single choice and multiple choice and there is an opportunity to review the key points before starting the quiz. If needed, incorrect answers can be reviewed before retaking the quiz as many times as needed.
