Our Cleaning to Professional Standards module is fully interactive using a range of questions and activities to ensure learners develop both knowledge and understanding of the professional standards along with videos where a Hotel Housekeeper demonstrates key techniques and standards and full colour images to show learners examples of standards.
From the moment a guest walks through the doors of a hotel, they are aware of the level of cleanliness. A carpet with bits on it doesn’t give the confidence that the room will be any better.
This module develops professional knowledge of dusting techniques, including damp dusting, understanding different polish finishes and care, and cleaning different types of glass, such as mirrors, crystal, and glass tops. It also explores the effective use of manual cleaning equipment, including different types of mops and techniques, vacuuming techniques, and carpet cleaning.
Learn the difference between a spot and a stain and key ways to remove them. There are additional key aspects to cleaning public areas that are considered including public area cloakroom areas. The module finishes with developing an understanding of periodic cleaning and storing equipment.

This module is designed for operational housekeeping staff in hotels and guesthouses and can be used with new staff to support internal on job training, to set a benchmark of Housekeeping standards for the whole team, to support the development of knowledge behind the practice and can be part of training schemes. Cleaning to Professional Standards will contribute to the off job training hours for team members undertaking the Housekeeping pathway in the Hospitality Team Member apprenticeship and as part of our complete Professional Housekeeping programme develops the base knowledge for other formal learning and qualifications.
The end quiz ensures that key points are both remembered and understood and using 30 questions covers key aspects of the module content and objectives. The pass mark is 80% and on successful completion, the certificate endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality is automatically available to be downloaded. Questions are in the same style as within the learning part of the module, ie: drag and drop, single choice and multiple choice and there is an opportunity to review the key points before starting the quiz. If needed, incorrect answers can be reviewed before retaking the quiz as many times as needed.
