Hollybourne Developments

3 small individual hotels form Hollybourne Developments. With no specific HR support and General Managers who are very hands on, induction was an area that frequently fell off the radar! The MD was keen to ensure teams were legally compliant and we were asked to set up an induction programme using our eLearning modules and update their personnel procedures.

Project development

Developing criteria for an accreditation requires thorough research - there is no room to get it wrong! Thought had to be given to the range of businesses that the accreditation is used by, from small conference centres and hotels with 1 or 2 rooms to international conference and event venues and ensure that the wording of criteria could apply to everyone.

Approach

Minimum staffing levels, using both fixed and flexi contracts, a small number of staff where English was not their first language, potentially some lack of IT skills and a certain scepticism at the online approach!, meant we faced several challenges to ensuring the success of this project We developed 2 versions of a bespoke Welcome to Our Team module, for fixed and flexi team members and to ensure the training was specific, we used our targeted safety modules for different job roles along with setting up pathways for each department. A flyer was sent to all staff informing them of what they were to be undergoing and time spent talking to people to allay concerns. The company took a place on our shared LMS portal and in the early stages we maintained full support to all learners to ensure they got through the process. Delighted to say it worked and the system is running smoothly!

Refresher modules

To ensure the team meet compliance requirements on an ongoing basis, we provide Fire, Safety and Food safety refresher modules which the administrator allocates on a quarterly, bi-annual or annual basis as required by the role.

HR Procedures

We undertook a review and update of the handbook which was then placed on the LMS so staff can download it as part of the induction process saving printing and storage costs and also making it easier to update and communicate changes. All the relevant personnel procedure forms were reviewed and re written were appropriate. A Personnel procedures manual was produced as a support tool, for General Managers and Head Office team which, along with the forms, was placed on their company intranet to make access and updating easier.
